Too much housing money?
N'ZPA Auckland Trustee banks should be encouraged to invest in productive regional development rather than exclusively in housing, the economist. Mr Brian Easton, told the Associated Trustee Banks conference in Auckland. Mr Easton said he believed New Zealand was over-in-vesting in housing and that frequently housing finance moves inct eased the price of 'homes. Mr Easton said directing money into productive investment. rather than housing. would ease inflation by reducing house price increases. lowering interest cost to business, and increasing productive capacity. He said Government policy restrictions were sufficiently broad to allow trustee banks to follow his proposal to invest in regional projects, and- he believed the Government could be encouraged to see them as a source of regional development finance.
