Camelot looks fine Addington prospect

By

G K YULE

Camelot, attempting tc earn a place among the South Island contenders for honours at the Benson anc Hedges Inter-Dominior Championship series in Auckland next month, should return to winning form in the Pan Am Consolation at Addington Raceway this evening. The talented son of Timely Knight dismayed his trainer-driver. Robin Butt, when he refused to pace smoothly and hung badly in a 3200 m race at Ashburton last Saturday. He showed that a minor problem had been overcome when he fought back tenaciously for third to The Sting at Addington on Wednesday.

He did well to return a dividend as he was forced wide for much of a fast-run race.

Camelot looks capable of bettering the two-minute barrier for one mile by a substantial margin and from a handy barrier position he should win. Ansett has shown her best form over longer distances, but she did well over a mile last season. She is one of the more talented four-year-old mares in commission and could offer more than token opposition to Camelot. Cyllarus has been off the scene since November 12. An open class horse, he has raced with distinction against strong opposition and he will not be out of his depth. Many of his better

efforts have come when he has been a little on the fresh side. It will be surprising if he fails -to get into the thick of the finish. Remote, with Imin 59.3 s to her credit, will also be in demand. She is a rugged mare and from No. 2 at the barrier she could add interest to the finish.

The Nelson mare. Chippie, won in Imin 59.3 s on Wednesday. but the opposition this time looks stronger. Even so. she could show up as she has drawn the pole position. Vita Man, so disappointing on Wednesday, and Kind Nature are two others capable of a bold showing, while Morgan James will not be a forlorn chance should he be fortunate to re-enter the field.
