Mini mushroom farm
If you like mushrooms and would like to try to grow your own there are one or two options available. On is to buy a commercial starter kit which enables fairly reliable results to be achieved within the confines of a polystyrene container, or some other type of receptacle. The task is simple and straightforward, with all cultural hints provided with the purchase. An alternative method is less reliable, but will still
provide a yield and a little entertainment as the first fruits of labour are awaited. Requirements are the purchase of mushroom spawn from a reputable source, and an area of lawn where turf can be lifted; Turves can be lifted using a straight board and a sharp spade. Each section of turf should measure about 30 x 50cm by 40mm in depth. Place the board along the strip which it is intended to lift and cut neatly along its edge. Allow about 30cm between each slice.
