Strike hint leads to cancellation
A hint of industrial action has led to the cancellation of the Port Moresby's monthly call at Lyttelton on the Papua New - Guinea run. A spokesman for the Diamond Line said from .Auckland yesterday that negotiations were continuing with the New Zealand Seamen's Union over the crewing of the Port Moresby. ' We were told by the union that if she did come out here, they could not guarantee that there would hot be a protest." said the spokesman. Both the Port Moresby and the other ship on the New" Zealand New Guinea service, the Lae. are crewed by Koreans. An application has been made to register both ships under the Papua New Guinean flag. A Papua New Guinean, crew ; will be put on the Lae. but the crew of the Port Moresby is likely to be the subject of more negotiation. The Port Moresby had been : due at Lyttelton this week, and Auckland next week. The Lae is scheduled to arrive at Lyttelton about March 23.
