• Cook vegetables in a saucepan using dividers or steam them in a double saucepan. • Use only enough water to Create steam and prevent sticking. Boiling an egg for example does not require the egg to be totally covered. • Thaw frozen foods before cooking. This will save up to 30 minutes per kilogram in cooking time. • Keep the oven door closed as much as possible when in operation as the oven temperature will drop considerably when it is open.
• Make the best use of an oven by cooking several dishes at the same time. Use a frypan when cooking only one item. • Preheat the oven only as necessary. Five to ten minutes is usually sufficient. • An oven setting of 70 to 80 degrees C. is sufficient for food warming. Higher temperatures waste electricity and cause deterioration of food quality. • Use the oven heat for warming plates rather than a separate compartment.
