Mr J. G. Templeton
PA Wellington Mr James George Templeton, father of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Hugh Templeton, died in Wellington last Sunday. He was 88. Mr Templeton, who was born in Thornbury, Southland. had a long career as a teacher in schools in Otago and Southland. He was educated at Southland Boys’ High School and joined the Public Trust in 1913. After a period of war
service and farming in Southland, he entered the teaching service as sole teacher at the Quarry Hill School. He taught at a number of other schools in the area. His last teaching post was as headmaster at Lumsden School, where he served from 1947 to 1955. After his retirement he turned to relieving teaching for several years at the Riverton District High School.
