Champions golf
Twenty-four Canterbury golf clubs will be represented by their senior, intermediate and junior champions in the provincial men's 36-hole champion of champions teams' tournament at Windsor on Sunday. The event, which is a stableford competition played without handicaps, was formerly sponsored by Peter Stuyvesant. but when that company withdrew its support after the 1981 tournament, the Canterbury association decided to organise the tournament itself.
Christchurch won last year's event on a count-back from Russley. Andrew’ Robinson will be the Christchurch club's senior player on this occasion instead of John Williamson, but Russley will again have James Angus as its top points scorer. Other prominent senior champions who will lead their club’s challenge include Greg Macintosh (Waitikiri), Brent Street (Coringa), Neil Reid (Harewood), Toby Richards (Hororata), Gary Kirk (Templeton), John Gregg (Waimairi Beach) and Jamie Bowen (Avondale).
