Filly realises top price of $15,500 at standardbred sales

and four of them realised $lO,OOO or more, second top price going to one by Doc's Tuck from Judy Lopez offered on behalf of the estate of the late Mr Jim Ewart, of Ashburton. The Shinn brothers, of West Melton, paid $13,500 for this close relation of Lopez Song, with which they enjoyed success before he was sold to North America. Top price among the colts was $14,500 paid by the Trotting Conference’s public relations officer, Mr John May. acting as agent for an Auckland businessman. He secured a colt by Lordship from Tudor Gold offered on

behalf of Mr Peter Binnie, of Ohoka. and his wife, Joan. A colt by World Skipper from a well-performed mare in Abbe Princess, offered on behalf of Mr and Mrs Darcy Newell, of Templeton, was sold for $12,000 to the Hellensville trainer, Tony Milina, who has two partners in the colt. Bidding throughout a marathon day extending over eight hours and a half was extremely patchy and there were more low than high points. The catalogue included far too many lots of no commercial value, a great number failing to attract even a bid of $lOOO and quite

a number were sold for $2OOO or less. Altogether 147 lots were sold for $586,050, an average of $4030, slightly more than the average of $3964 for 146 sales last year. There was practically no interest in the sales from Sydney or ■ Melbourne, but there were several buyers from Western Australia and Queensland. They took 21 lots for $116,550. an average of $5550. The most active buyer was John McMullen, of Brisbane, who took seven lots for $31,750, while Mike Lombardo, of Perth, took five lots for $35,600, and Kevin

Thomas, of Brisbane, took four lots for $22,650, The New York horseman. Herman Carbone, made one purchase at $5OOO. The boom sire. Smooth Fella, had the best sale, five lots averaging $6920. while Meddlesome averaged $6325 for four lots and Lordship $6125 for eight lots. El Patron averaged $5942 for seven lots, while Nood--1 urn's figures were $4885 for seven lots and those for Scottish Hanover were six lots for an average of $4500. Nardin's Byrd averaged $4160 for five lots. Out to Win $4159 for 11 lots and Armbro Del $4OBl for eight lots.
