Four goals for the N.Z. economy
Parliamentary reporter Weak and defenceless groups like the unemployed ought not to bear the brunt of the recession, says the Deputy-Leader of the Opposition, Mr Palmer.
It was particularly important at a time of poor economic performance that the burdens and sacrifices be spread as widely as possible. There should be four priori-ties,-he said. These were — • The full and efficient employment of all resources — especially people who wanted to work.
• An equitable distribution of wealth and income.
• A balance of payments equilibrium between earnings of overseas exchange and expenditures of it. • Price stability and a low rate of inflation.
