Link travel savings ‘not traced’

PA Auckland Up to $50,000 travel savings of members of the-Link Association could not be traced. Mr Justice Barker was told yesterday in the High Court before he ordered the winding up of the society, and confirmed the appointment of the Official Assignee as liquidator. The president of the Association of Clubs and Migrant Organisations said it held members' travel accounts which should total $llO,OOO, but an accountant has been able to trace only $60,000 and another possible sum of $lB,OOO. Mrs Oriel Bickerton, president of the association for the last year and vice-presi-

dent for the last 13 years, told His Honour that as a result of rumours the society appointed an accountant in May last year. In November, the accountant produced a breakdown of the society's financial position showing liabilities of more than $90,000 and assets of $25,000, plus a disputed credit of $5OOO. Mrs Bickerton said it was decided by the committee last November that the society should cease trading. Counsel for the Registrar of Incorporated Societies, Mr lan Ramsay, said the Official Assignee had already been appointed as provisional liquidator and had collected the society’s assets and records.
