No turning back
The Nares, who flew down from Auckland especially for the Heat Rave festival at Woodford Glen last Sunday, have been putting the finishing touches to a mini-album for CBS Records, and saving their pennies for the airfares to Australia. Steve Clarkson, the drummer, said the Nares were busy saving and it was hoped to release the minialbum in Australia while the band were there, if CBS Australia liked the songs. They had liked the demo tapes that had been sent over so far, he said. The Nares had about four weeks to six weeks lined up to Australia and it was a matter of contacting the “right people” once they arrived. The mini-album, “No Turning Back,” would probably be released in New Zealand while the group ■ were in Australia, and the Nares would be returning to promote it, probably at the end
of April or early May. “There is only so many times that you can tour New Zealand. You have to look for fresh places,” said Clarkson. The band were still attracting big audiences. Their recent “Indoor Beach Tour” of the resorts on the East Coast and central North Island, had been a great success. The Nares return for a South Island “Indoor Beach Tour” at the end of this month, when they play at the Post Office Hotel, Motueka, on February 28; the DB Rutherford Hotel, Nelson, on February 29, and the Terminus Hotel, Timaru, on March 2.'From March 3 to March 5 they are at the Hillsborough Tavern. “No Turning Back” contains five songs. Besides the title track, the others are “Star Way,” “Then She was Gone,” “The Beach,” and “Betcha Ya Know How It Feels.”
Steve Clarkson said that the final mix down had to be done on two songs and then the record would be complete. It had been co-pro-duced at Harlequin Studios, with Reid Snell as engineer. The group had been disappointed that the weather had affected Sunday’s outdoor show, because they had been looking forward to playing.
