The bougainvillea provided a most unforgettable sight. It had been allowed to grow up and over an old gum tree some 8-9m in height and was photographed in Kings Park, Perth. These showy climbers are currently providing very good displays in many gardens in and round the Christchurch area. There are many varieties to choose from including white, yellow or orange flowered ferns as well as as some with variegated leaves. However few are as hardy as Bougainvillea magnifica traillii.
