Addington market Lamb prices down, sheep up

Store lamb values eased but prices for adult sheep showed a slight rise at the Addington market yesterday. Although the yarding of almost ■ 11,000 store lambs was less than half the number offered last week, demand for lambs was weaker. The buying gallery was small and with little competition from southern buyers over-all values declined by 50c a head. Most lambs sold between $ll and $l4 with few sales over $l5. Poor lambs were $4 to $7. A well-bred line of woolly Romney ewe lambs sold for $lB.lO and a pen of shorn Romneys made $lB. Smaller Romneys were $ll to $l5 and a pen of Coopworths made $16.60. Some top lines of annual draft ewes created a little more interest in the adult sheep section. Many sales of well-conditioned ewes were made from $l2 to $l4, with an excellent line of fouryear Corriedales from A. T. and A. W. Black (Kekerengu) making to $17.20. Ewes which were hard to sell at $9 to $lO last week regularly made $ll yesterday. The over-all quality of the adult section was much better than recent weeks, although several pens of light sheep sold from $4 to $B. Store cattle had a strong sale with West Coast. Mid-Canterbury and local buyers. The over-all quality of the cattle offered was better than stock offered at recent Tuesday sales and this was reflected in an improvement in values. Competition was keen for several pens of adult .cattle in forward condition. A line of 21'zyear South Devon steers from T. G.
