Initiative gets job
Mr Gary Kennard, a Cashmere man, aged 23, who last week advertised a reward of SlOO for the person who found him a fulltime job, has won a job as a waiter, starting on February 22. Mr Kennard said that his employer has told him he did not want the SlOO reward, but that he (Mr Kennard)
'could spend it on a uniform for the job. “It is a terrific opportunity. I have no experience in that field but I will be taken on a trial basis and given training. It just goes to show that there are jobs about if you use a bit of initiative,” he said. How much will he earn a week in his new job?
“I have not even asked. I did not want to push my luck too far,” said Mr Kennard. The secretary of the Canterbury Hotel, Restaurant, Hospital and Related Trades Union, Mr G. D. Harding, said that the minimum award rate for a food waiter, assuming a straight Monday to Friday shift, was $175 gross a week.
