Man for trial on rape count

PA Wellington A man told the District Court in Wellington that while in a park with, his wife he was punched, grabbed by two men. and made to walk on all fours with a dog-lead round his neck. He said that one of the men made him go back to his wife and he saw the other, Henry Mahuika Wanoa, raping her. Wanoa, aged 19. a workman, has denied a charge of rape.

He has also denied that, with Dean Anthony Burgess, he robbed the male complainant of three packets of cigarettes. After the taking of depositions. Messrs H. E. Jensen and L. G. Brown, Justices of the Peace, found that a prima facie case had been established and committed Wanoa to the High Court for trial. An application for bail was rejected. The names of both complainants were suppressed.
