Police probe farm stock irregularities
PA Invercargill The head of the Invercargill C. 1.8., Detective Inspector K. G. Schwass, said last evening that the police were investigating irregularities relating to a number of Lands and Survey blocks in the Te Anau area.
A number of persons were being interviewed in connection with the investigation, he said.
Inquiries could take some time and the police were
being helped by the Lands and Survey Department, Mr Schwass said. It is believed that the inquiry is into alleged farm stocking malpractices on departmental blocks, centring on stock numbers carried on farms the department is developing for later balloting to young farmers. The Commissioner of Crown Lands in Invercargill, Mr J. P. Harty, has declined to comment.
