P.N.G. court clears N.Z. teacher

NZPA Port. Moresby A magistrate in Port Moresby has dismissed a charge of “carnal knowlege against the order of nature,” laid against a former New Zealand headmaster.

In the Mount Hagen Court last week, a Magistrate, Mr Job Matautu, found indications that evidence against Brian Peterson, aged 45. formerly of Whangarei, “had been fabricated.”

The Magistrate said that he had found evidence of illfeeling harboured by a junior teacher against Peterson, and concluded that there was not enough evidence to convict.

The charge was originally laid last November, after a students’ “strike” at the Mount Hagen Provincial High School. Peterson was charged with carnally knowing a male student, ■ aged 16, at the boarding school.
