Los Angeles marathon
NZPA staff correspondent Washington Runners from more than 30 countries are expected to take part in the Avon International marathon for women in Los Angeles on June 5, the organisers say. New Zealand’s Lorraine Moller won the Avon last year, when it was run in San Francisco, outdistancing 641 competitors from 23 countries and winning SUSIS,OOO
in developmental training money. Her time was 2min 36.135. This year the organisersexpect more than 1500 competitors. The race will serve as a.qualifier for the United States women's marathon team for the championships in Helsinki in August and for the Pan American Games in Caracas the same month, if a women’s marathon is included in that programme.
