Dudley for Canty trials
The Burroughs-Karori (Wellington) American-born point-guard, Clyde Huntley, will take part in the 3ZM Canterbury men’s basketball trials at Cowles Stadium at the week-end. In a rather sensational move, the coach of the Canterbury team, Mr Murray Mackay, said yesterday that Huntley had retained a long interest in playing in Canterbury and, after negotiations
with a Christchurch club team (as yet unnamed), he was prepared to “try out.” If he was satisfied he would move to Christchurch. “My stipulation has always been that the Canterbury squad would consist of players who take part in the trials,” said Mr McKay. “That is why I have, at late notice, included Huntley in the trials." Huntley has been in New
Zealand for two years. He previously played for Washington State, and when he first joined Karori two years ago was named the most outstanding guard in New Zealand. “He is the best point-guard in New Zealand and that is one position Canterbury has been lacking,’’ said Mr Mackay. “If he decides to stay he will be a real asset for Canterbury.”
