Fireball seen by pilot
PA Wellington A fireball seen near New’ Zealand by a pilot early yesterday was not believed to be part of the nuclear fuel core from Cosmos 1402, officials said. The pilot of an incoming Tasman aircraft sighted a “very bright fireball" at 2.08 a.m., said the chairman of New Zealand’s satellite reentry committee. Mr Gerald Hensley. The committee confirmed initial reports that the satellite’s fuel core "de-orbited” over the South Atlantic at 12.10 a.m.
