Two riders fined
The Riccarton apprentice. Raewyn Starr, was fined $25 and the Wingatui jockey. Paul Richards. $3O by the Canterbury Jockey Club's judicial committee yesterday.
Starr, the rider of Reingard in the Oaklands Handicap. was fined for using the whip excessively on her mount in the run home. In coming to the decision of penalty, the committee took into account that this was the first time Starr had been charged and found guilty of an offence.
Richards, the rider of Copernicus in the C.J.C. Breeders' Stakes, was fined for careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift ground outwards when not sufficiently clear and caused Jendra, which was racing between Black Gull and Copernicus, to ease and lose about a length 100 metres from the finish.
Although the committee upheld the charge against Richards, they considered it was of a minor nature and also took into account the fact that Sea Princess, which was racing immediately ahead, was also moving around.
