Race was romp for Hint
Hint hardly had to draw a deep breath to beat the other two-year-olds in the Oaklands Handicap at Riccarton yesterday. She was one of only two winners in the field and was backed down to odds-on, a display of confidence she handsomely justified. In the hands of Judy Hawes she won by three lengths from Latinity, which had led. for more than half way. Hint is raced by the estate of the late Mr T' C. Lowry.
Mr Tom R. Lowry, who now guides the destinies of the famous Okawa Stud in Hawke’s Bay. was at Riccarton with his wife and son to see Hint win yesterday. "She rode her perfectly." Mr Lowry said after he congratulated Judy Hawes on her victory. “She did the right thing by sitting quietly.” Hint is by Three Legs, the successful son of Petingo imported for Okawa. and her dam is Re-enter by Faux Tirage.
A yearling brother to Hint was sold at the Trentham sales, and Re-enter was sold a few days later at the mixed sale. She is in foal to Pevero. Latinity stayed beyond challenging range of the others in finishing second yesterday. But Halcyon Days had to battle from last to third over Fair Surf. Reingard. Hint's bestbacked rival for a win, drifted on the inside early, but made some headway on the inside to finish sixth.
