AMP develops new service unit
The AMP Society has streamlined its service to local superannuation clients by creating a special administration unit in its Christchurch office. Initially the unit will service AMP's Christchurch and Timaru superannuation clients. Other South Island clients will be transferred as the unit develops.
Mr Steve Rawnsley, the South Island superannuation plan manager, heads the new team of eight staff. He joined the AMP in Wellington in 1976 and has wide experience in superannuation administration. He was appointed as superannuation plan manager in Auckland in 1981, and transferred to this new position in January of this year. Three new jobs were created in Christchurch to complete the establishment of this superannuation service unit.
Miss Jill Walker, who has been AMP's link with Christchurch superannuation clients since she joined AMP in 1976, has been appointed superannuation plan adviser with special responsibilities to provide clients with technical advice.
The 400 plans in the South Island encompassing superannuation protection for some 6000 members, involve annual contributions of $ll million a year. They are managed under the AMPdesigned DARPL computer system, described as one of the most modern superannuation accounting systems in the world today. The heart of the system’s
operation is the installation of the peripheral hardware comprising two IBM 3278 visual display units, an IBM 3287 printer and an IBM 3776 communications terminal and combined printer. These give an on-line link to the AMP’s mainframe IBM 3081 computer system in Sydney. This link is the latest addition to AMP's Australasian computer network.
