Whitcoulls firms 15c

Whitcoulls rose 15c to 235 c in response to the take-over bid from Brierley Investments, on an easier, busy New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. Williamson Jeffery rose 10c to 170 c, perhaps because of speculation that Brierley might also make an offer for that company. Brierley already has an interest in Wiljef. as does Whitcoulls. Brierley lost 8c to 240 c. but this may in part be attributable to the easier market. Among second-line issues. Radio Avon stood out on a further 10c gain. The mining and oil sector was weaker; Mineral Resources lost 13c. NZ Goldfields 12c. NZ Petroleum sc. and L and M 4c.
