Cricket rebels
Sir,—My reference to “The Press" alone which seems to have created some confusion forL. R. Wilkinson was simply to make the point that it was possible to take a balanced viewpoint from overseas reports published in “The Press.” The over-all consensus of these reports, and those in other publications, is that any “relaxation of apartheid laws" is seen as cosmetic and lacking substance. "International contact between nations" does not always lead to greater understanding; witness Germany and other European countries in the 19305. History can throw up many other instances that put the lie to this bland statement by L. R. Wilkinson. Also, because South Africa is very selective as to whom it allows into that country, it does make a farce of international contact. The few who do slip through are not always in accord with the official press releases issued by the South African Government. — Yours, etc.,
ROBERT CLARKSON. February 7, 1983.
