N.Z. film slated in Tokyo review
From BRUCE ROSCOE in Tokyo New Zealand’s latest attempt at wooing Tokyo filmgoers has been roasted by the "Tokyo Journal," which in a February 1 review of “Battletruck” says the film “fires off more cliches than bullets."' Mr Don Morton, the editor-in-chief of the monthly Eng-lish-language journal, writes: “The good news about this New Zealand imitation of an Australian flick is that it is better than ‘Megaforce.’ The bad news is that it is only slightly sq. “Set in the future after what is referred to as ‘the
Gas’ Wars’, which have resulted in a largely uninhabitable, radioactive planet, the show features a star which is a big turbine semi which has been converted by a group of nasties into ah armoured and armed moving behemoth. “This demented, gasolinehungry gang of almost comical (unintentionally) sadists and rapists roams the barren high country of ‘Enzed’ in search of hoards of gasoline. So much for the plot. “There is action, to be sure, of a somewhat contrived nature, and lots of shooting, but it seems they fire off more cliches than bullets," the journal says.
