Diver believed to have drowned
PA . . Gisborne A man. whose boay was found on Sunday is believed to have drowned while scuba diving near Wairata in the Waioeka Gorge. He was Sonny Joseph Haenga, aged 21. of Gisborne. Mr Haenga had been diving in a group and was wearing diving equipment when he went off alone Jooking for somewhere to set eel pots.
About 2.20 p.m. the group set off to find him and found his body about 6.30 p.m. The police, in Auckland, have released the name of a seaman crushed to death between two containers in a ship's hold on Friday. He was John Clinton Rooke, aged 58. of Parnell. The police said that Mr Rooke was shackling containers together in the hold of the Manama when the accident happened.
