Cent rat denied victory

PA Hamilton Determined rearguard action by Northern Districts 'denied the Central Districts bowlers and fieldsmen the outright win they sought in a hard-fought final afternoon of their Shell Trophy cricket match in Hamilton yesterday. Holding on at 202 for nine at the close of play. Northern Districts came out with a draw and Central Districts had to settle for points for the first innings- lead. Central Districts’ first innings advantage was 392 against Northern Districts' 292. When the visitors' second innings was closed half an hour before lunch oh the final day Northern Districts’ winning requirement was 319, a target which before long became most unlikely. Again several of the toporder Northern Districts batsmen started well but

were not able to press on to the big scores the occasion demanded. The exceptional running out of Andrew Roberts saw the last hope of victory for Northern Districts disappear.
