Hearing on abattoir
Two Banks Peninsula residents have been appointed to an Akaroa County Council hearing into a proposed abattoir at Takamatua. Normally, hearing committees are comprised of councillors but as many councillors are shareholders in Banks Peninsula Meats, Ltd, outsiders were called in. The hearing is for a specified departure from the Dis-
trict Schemme. A proposal to alter the scheme to create a new “rural industrial” zone will also be heard. Objections to the proposals will close-on February 10, and a hearing date will then be set. The committee will be Crs D. E. Wright and D. S. Hayward, both of whom have no financial interest in the abattoir, and Messrs Rick Menzies and Peter Polson.
