The Nelson golfer. Neil Fowke, joined an elite few in New Zealand when he secured his seventh hole-in-one while playing at the Nelson club’s course on Saturday. Fowke hit a perfect 6-iron to the green at the 130 m sixth hole. Although 60, and at times handicapped by a troublesome back. Fowke’s handicap is seldom far from a single figure. He has played with considerable distinction in the past having represented Canterbury in the first Freyberg' Rose Bowl tournamentat Paraparaumu in
1950. and the old “League of Nations" team (Nelson-Marl-borough-West Coast-Buller). He has also won club and provincial titled in Canterbury and Nelson. He scored his last ace in June 1981. His previous one-shots were at Kaiapoi and Rawhiti 22 years earlier and at the Nelson club's sixth, seventh and third holes. Peter Gourdie. a young partner in the four that played on Saturday, came very close to emulating Fowke’s feat at the 181 m fifteenth. He hit to within 20cm of the cup.
