$5000 gift to foundation
People who recycle their waste glass will be making a contribution towards the training of New Zealand's Olympic Games hopefuls in 1984. The manager of the New Zealand Glass Manufacturers Company, Mr David Jenkin, has announced in Auckland that a $5OOO donation has been made to the New Zealand Sports Foundation to help athletes to prepare for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The money has been allocated from' the company’s recycling fund. For every tonne of glass received from the public through recycling centres, $1 is given to the fund for charity. Admiral Sir Gordon Tait, president of the Sports Foundation, said that the money would go towards the cost of providing coaching, equipment, international competition, and financial help for athletes.
