Bowls reach semi-finals
PA Auckland Bert Robinson and Jack Gilbert (Hillsboro) avenged their defeat two years ago in the final of the national pairs by winning a place yesterday in the semi-finals of the MacLeay Duff pairs bowls tournament. They beat lan Dickison (Kaikorai), 26-12, on their way to an unbeaten run in post-section play at the competition, and will meet Nick Unkovich (Rawhiti) in one semi-final this morning. The other semi-final will pit last year’s winners. Peter Beiliss and Keith Slight (Ara-
moho), against the former international, Kevin Darling (Matua), and Sid Giddy (Arawa). Two years ago Dickison won with a last bowl drive, but yesterday he had no answere to the Auckland pair, who raced to a 9-1 lead, and extended it to 20-9, Robinson went on to beat Percy Jones (Otahuhu Railway) 22-20, having led 22-14 at one stage. On Saturday, he won his first post-section game 18-17 over Ivan Kostanich (Helensville) on an extra end.
