Suspended sentence
NZPA Bologna The doctor present at the 1979 European middleweight title fight in which the Italian boxer. Angelo Jacopucci, was fatally injured has been given an ’ eight-month suspended prison sentence for manslaughter. Doctor Ezio Pimpinelli has also been ordered to pay damages to the boxer's wife and son, with a first provisional payment of about $18,900. Jacopucci's manager. Rocco Agostino, and the
Frenchman. Raymond Baldeyrou. who refereed the fatal fight, both faced the same charge, but were found not guilty due to lack of evidence. Jacopucci died in hospital from a massive brain haemorrage in July 1979. three days after being knocked out by Alan Minter of Britain. The prosecution said that the three defendants were responsible for the boxer's death because they failed to intervene in time to save his life during and after the fight.
