Irish woman wins
NZPA Osaka Carey May. of Ireland, won an international women’s marathon race in 2hrs 29mins 235, the world’s seventh fastest time in Osaka at the week-end. The Irish entrant, aged 23, beat Charlotte Teske of West Germany, the favourite, by [ more than 6mins to become the ninth woman to finish a i marathon in less than, 2hrs
30mins. Teske, aged 33. winner of last year's Boston marathon, finished second in 2:35:44 with Kathryn Binns of Britain third in 2:37:01. Teske and May shared the lead from the 13km mark, but May began to pull away from 15km to win easily. A New Zealander, Judith Hine, did not finish in the first 10 placings.
