Radio export
Tait Electronics, Ltd, the Christchurch-based electronics manufacturer, has been awarded a $250,000 contract for specialised two-way radio equipment by Shell Petroleum for use in Brunei. The New Zealand designed and built equipment allows Shell’s shore based computer to control machinery on 43 oil and gas-producing platforms in the sea off North Borneo. This order includes Tait
“hot standby” equipment which ensures unbroken communication in the event of any electrical failure. Tait Electronics engineering staff will travel to Brunei to install and commission the radio equipment, which will be housed in selfcontained modules, and serviced by helicopter. Several of the systems are powered by thermal generating plants installed on the platforms and fuelled with gas.
