Problems at refinery
PA Whangarei A leak in a heat extractor is causing concern at the Marsden Point oil refinery, and could be further affecting production which is already down about 30 per cent because of problems in the big distillation column. Engineers discovered the leak while checking the extent of the problem .with the distillation column and have spent two days trying to
make repairs. Engineers were unsure yesterday if the leak was associated with the main fault and were also unable to determine how much more the leak will affect production. They say they "will know the answers today. Production is expected to stop completely for about 10 days next month while repairs are made to the column.
