Milk powder sold by N.Z. to Ecuador

PA Wellington The Dairy Board has sold $5 million worth of wholemilk powder to Ecuador, its first sale there for four years. The board said it won the Government contract for 3500 tonnes of powder in the face of competition from Europe. Uruguay, and Argentina.

The price the board gained was higher than that sought by the other competitors. The board's butter adver-

tising campaign seems to have failed to halt the decline in domestic sales, though it has slowed it down. Sales on the local market are expected to have fallen slightly in the last year,, according to the board's local market promotion manager, Mrs Catherine Saunders. Sales in the last year are likely to be about 40,000 tonnes, slightly down on the year before, Mrs Saunders said from her Auckland office.
