Fisherman charged
A Lyttelton fisherman appeared in the District Court yesterday on a charge of stealing a cheque book and four charges each of false pretence and cheque forgery. Gregory Francis Witte, aged 25, was remanded on bail without plea to January 27. Witte is charged with stealing a National Bank cheque book valued at $2.70 from Trevor Roland Ernest Witte on January 12. He also faces four charges of forging National Bank of New Zealand cheque forms on the same
date. Two of the false pretence charges relate to the obtaining of goods from Streeters Handcraft, Ltd. on January 12 using National Bank cheques signed T. R. E. Witte. The cheques were made out for $103.45 and $9.95. Witte is further charged with obtaining goods to the value of $lB3 from Gun City, Ltd, and $5O from Port Motors, Ltd, on January 12. The alleged offences were committed by falsely representing National Bank cheques signed T. R. E. Witte.
