Space chimp dies
Ham the Chimpanzee, the first chimp to ride a rocket into space, has died at the age of 26. The chimp died at the North Carolina Zoological Park where he had lived for two years and a half, said zoo officials. Ham, who preceded Alan Shepard into space, rode a Redstone rocket in a sub-orbital flight on January 31, 1961. — Asheboro.
