Computer of year
"The Press" computer page has selected the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, as its "Computer of the Year" for 1982.
The calculations that Mr Muldoon has carried out to count the sales tax collected on imports of computer equipment ensures him the title for 1982.
With the award. "The Press" computer page honours the computer that has had the most impact, for good or ill. on the course of events during the year. Mr Muldoon beat the Poly, the Apple 11, Burroughs LINC, Casper, the Credit-men-Dunns computer and the Computer Society’s membership system. The selection of a human
being as the "Computer of the Year" may upset some readers, in a year where the computer has had such a major effect on the New Zealand way of life. But
“The Press" computer page argues that the sales tax on computers continues to be the most significant influence on the use of computers in the country.
