Wang sells to ICI
ICI New Zealand. Ltd. has released details of its recent decision to order a major Wang computer system. A Wang VS-100 system with 47 on-line terminals will be installed in ICI House in Wellington. The system will link the major sales offices and stores of ICI New Zealand head office divisions and departments and an ICI subsidiary. ICI Tasman, Ltd. Contrary to an earlier re-
port in "The Press." the system will not replace an IBM 4300. It will progressively replace work at present being processed on an IBM 370 computer at an outside bureau. The head office business areas to use the Wang system will be the chemicals group, the health care division, the resins division, and the controller’s and finance departments. Dulux, another large ICI
subsidiary, is not affected by the current plans. It has a large IBM installation. The Wang computer network will use the FACT software package for order processing, inventory, sales and marketing, debtors, and production planning. In addition, the system will become available for other uses, such as the improvement of communications by utilisation of its message-handling abilities.
