Israel ‘will give up 97 p.c. of land’
NZPA Kuwait A Kuwaiti newspaper said yesterday that the Palestine Liberation Organisation chairman, Mr Yasser Arafat, would take part in ArabIsraeli peace talks in March after an alleged American promise that Israel would relinquish 97 per cent of the occupied West Bank of the Jordan River. The report, published in the independent Kuwaiti newspaper, “Al-Qabas." attributed the information to unidentified "informed Jordanian sources and Palestinians close to the P.L.O. leadership." According to the- newspaper, noted for exclusive reports from Jordan, the American ideas provide for a joint Jordanian-Palestinian delegation, “on condition that the Palestinian component not be limited to the P.L.0.." and give assurances that “97 per cent of the occupied West Bank of the Jordan would be relinquished by Israel, with the remaining 3 per cent to be traded for other areas" in Israel proper.
Meanwhile, Mr Arafat has arrived at Amman, the Jordanian capital, for talks with King Hussein, the official Jordanian News Agency reports. Palestinian sources expected Mr Arafat to be briefed by the King today on the outcome of his talks with President Ronald Reagan in Washington last month.
