N.Z. lifesaving team
PA Auckland Brent O'Neill, of Wellington, a candidate for the national lifesaving team to tour Australia, had his selection chances dashed when he tore a hamstring during trials at Muriwai on Saturday. O'Neill was competing in the beach flags event. The selectors. I. Greenwood. R. W. Glover and T. Corkin. later announced the following team which opens its tour on Wednesday: D. F. (Paekakariki. captain). M. Bassett (Otaki), D. MeKenzie (Mairangi Bay), B. Sokratov (Waipu Cove), A. Clarke (Lyall Bay). R. Jenkinson (Midway). L. Humer, R. Laing (St Kilda), R. Bruce, G. Fitzgerald, J. Gilbert. L. McDowell, P. Grey (all Titahi Bay); B. Marshall (Waihi). Juniors: A. Park and I. Woolford (St Kilda), S. Richards (Paekakariki). For the first time the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Association is sending a physiotherapist in a touring party. He is P. Helm, of Auckland.
