Woman wins swim
Sonia O’Connell won the 10km annual Akaroa swim in choppy water and cold conditions yesterday. Her time was 2hr 13min 4s and the only other finisher, Michael Quinlivan, covered the twoway crossing from Akaroa to Tikao Bay and back in 2hr 19min Bs. In the skm swim from Tikao Bay to Akaroa, Ashley Fogel led home a former New Zealand water polo
team-mate. Richard Clarke., Fogel’s time was Ihr Imin 4s and Clarke's was Ihr smin Is. A visiting Australian. Larry Brooks, was third in Ihr smin 2s. The women’s event was won by H. Williams in a time of Ihr 22min 2s from C. Forrest whose time was Ihr 36min. The oldest swimmer was Joe Harding ; aged 59, who covered the skm in Ihr 35min. _______
