N.Z. will see Aust, benefit concert on TV

NZPA , Sydney The Australian Operas benefit concert on January 23 featuring Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti and conducted by Richard Boynge will go live to America and New Zealand. A spokesman from the Australian Opera said New Zealand would get a live television coverage, begin-

ning at 9.45 pm. New Zealand time.

It would also be broadcast live, in the United States on national public radio, a noncommercial network of 276 stations, the spokesman said.

In Australia the concert would be broadcast simultaneously on A.B.C. TV and A.8.C.-FM. American and New Zealand sources expected that the combined audience for the event in the two countries would be more than 10 million people, the spokesman said.

The general manager of the Australian Opera, Mr Patrick Veitch, said he believed the concert would be the first live concert from the Sydney Opera House to be beamed direct to the United States and New Zealand.

“It is significant that this breakthrough should have been made at the time for the tenth anniversary of the Sydney Opera House,” Mr Veitch said.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring this event to millions of Americans and New Zealanders.”
