Tough, ambitious detective in new series

Jack Shannon, a tough, ambitious detective, struggles to make a name for himself in.the elite San Francisco "S" Squad, while trying to raise his son alone, in a new police series which will begin on One at 8.40

tonight. "Shannon." starring Kevin Dobson (from "Kojak"). is the story of a man who has many roles to play in life — and who is forced to combine a demanding career with the responsibilities of raising a child alone.

Shannon is a good father, but a better policeman. Since his earliest days on the NeuYork City police force, he made it clear that he was "going places." Devoting all his time and energy to the job. he took it for granted that his wife would handle the household responsibilities and the care of his son. John. Then his wife died.

Suddenly Jack was faced with a responsibility he had never, before acknowledged; and it occurred to him that taking care of a small boy required a commitment that he did qot have time for. So he packed his bags, transferred to the San Francisco Police Department, and travelled west to join John’s grandparents, who could offer their time and support.

But Shannon discovered it still was not easy. It was tough being a new policeman on an established force, and in the elite ”S” Squad he was’ determined to make a name for himself despite the handicap.

“S” Squad assignments include the most difficult and dangerous on the force — murder, arson, drugs, rape and more. The hours are irregular and the dedication required is gruelling. In tonight's episode Shan-

non returns to New York to clear his name of coercion. Prior to his move to San Francisco, he and his partner. with the help of a 14-year-old prostitute, have worked to indict a notorious mobster whose rackets include prostitution and drugs. When the case is heard. Shannon is accused of coercion.

Kevin Dobson stars as Jack Shannon with Charlie Fields as John Shannon: Michael Durrell as Lieutenant Moraga: Robert Davi as Mel Mishkin:.Al Ruscio as Paul Locatelli: Karen Kondazian as Irene Locatelli: Bobby DiCicco as Vernon Jones; Laura Dern as Clare Piotak and Milt Kogan as Phipps. “Shannon." written and created by Albert Ruben, was produced by Alvin Sapinsley and directed by Richard Sarafian for MCA TV
