Guyler gets lead role
A popular English actor. Deryck Guyler. will arrive in Auckland today to take the lead role in the new series. “You're Only Young Twice." A veteran actor. Jimmy Jewel, originally booked for the role, is unable to take the part because of family illness.
Guyler. well-known to thousands of New Zealand viewers for his parts as the policeman. Corky, in "Sykes." and the caretaker in “Please Sir." began acting with the Liverpool Repertory Companv. His part in "You're Only Young Twice" will oe specially rewritten and reshaped for him by the series' writers. TVNZ has announced.
It was Guyler's creation of
Frisby Dyke (the first time an actor had used the Liverpool accent on the air) in Tommy Handley’s wartime show, "Itma,” that brought
him recognition. He has sinceappeared in numerous productions in all entertainment media.
As well as appearing in "Sykes" and "Please Sir." he has appeared in the television shows. "Three Live Wires.” "That's My Boy" and “Best of Enemies."
Educated at Liverpool College. Guyler is married to a former singer. Paddy Lennox. and has two sons. He has been a fanatical devotee of washboard playing since his schooldays. Other hobbies include toy soldiers (he has a collection running into thousands). traditional jazz records and his washboard.
“You're Only Young Twice” is being produced by Tony Holden for TVNS.
