DEPARTMENT [fol OF LABOUR TRAINEE INSPECTORS OF EXPLOSIVES AND DANGEROUS GOODS THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR has vacancies for Trainee Inspectors of Explosives and Dangerous Goods in its Head Office. Appointees would initially be required to be located in either Auckland or one of the other District Offices for basic training, on completion of which they would be required to transfer to other locations. The Explosives and Dangerous Goods Division is responsible for the administration of the Dangerous Goods Act 1974. which controls the storage, carriage, handling and use of dangerous goods, including most aspects of the petroleum, petrochemical. alternative and indigenous energy undertakings in New Zealand. The Division’s responsibilities in the explosive field include the importation, storage, sale, carriage, manufacture and the practical use of commercial explosives. The work is interesting, demanding and rewarding and provides an opportunity for promotion to become part of an experienced team involved in the licensing and inspection of dangerous goods and explosives facilities. Applicants should be prepared to accept responsibility and work independently. Some travelling is involved. QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Minimum School Certificate or equivalent. Preferably aged between 25-35 years. A background in dangerous goods or explosives, however, applicants with experience in chemistry, physics or engineering will be considered.
