MONASH UNIVERSITY Melbourne, Australia I TWO CHAIRS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL MEDICINE APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitable persons for appointment to Chairs of Psychological Medicine as follows:— The Chair of Psychological Medicine at Prince Henry’s Hospital where the Department of Psychological Medicine is based will become vacant at the end of 1982 upon the retirement of the present Chairman of the Department, Professor Wallace Ironside. This position was advertised earlier in 1982 but is now being readvertised because of changed circumstances associated with the establishment of a Second Chair in the Department. The Chair of Psychological Medicine at Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital has recently been established within the Department of Psychological Medicine which has been expanded to provide teaching and research accommodation at this Hospital. The Department of Psychological Medicine has teaching responsibilities in each year of the medical course. The Professors will be expected to conduct research and to co-ordinate the teaching of Psychological Medicine (including institutional Psychiatry) and will be appointed as members of the specialist medical staff in the hospitals at which they are based. The Professors will have the co-operation of the staff of Hospital Departments of Psychiatry at Alfred and Prince Henry’s Hospitals, which are the two general Teaching Hospitals of the University, and of Queen Victoria Medical Centre where the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Paediatrics are located. In addition, assistance in teaching is provided by staff of the Mental Health Division of the Health Commission of Victoria, located at Royal Park and Larundel Hospitals where students spend two weeks in residence during their course. The Chairman of the Department of Psychological Medicine will be appointed by Council and. in the first instance, will be the Professor appointed to the Chair at Prince Henry’s Hospital. The Professor occupying the Chair at Royal Park Hospital is eligible for appointment as Chairman of Department and may be expected to assume this role at some time in the future if Council so determines, on the advice of the Vice-Chancellor, after consulting the Dean of the Faculty and the Professors in the Department. Salary: 5A55.377 per annum which includes a clinical loading of SAB4OO per annum. Superannuation, travel and removal allowance, temporary housing assistance. This is a progressive general hospital with 200 beds and particularly well developed coronary care, endoscopic, paediatric and radiological facilities. Duties are thoseof a general physician, but the successful applicant may have or develop a special interest. Commencing salary will be within the automatic scale for an appointee possessing specialist qualifications recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
