Makorby out for spell
Special correspondent Woodville Makorby, a failure in the Auckland Cup, has been turned out for a spell. He is likely to be back in action in the autumn. His trainer. Des Harris, is considering taking him to Brisbane during the winter. Makorby’s run in the Cup should be excused. He cast two hind plates, and it was discovered later that his blood count was well out, indicating he had been suffering from a virus.
Bruce Marsh has turned out Shamrock, which disappointed in the Evening Standard Manawatu Cup. A half-brother, Guinness, has also been given a let-up -following only fair races at Otaki. Meanwhile, the Avondale Guineas winner, Suttle Knight, has done well since contesting the Derby. He is likely to line up in the Pahiatua Weigh t-for-age Stakes on Wednesday, and his Derby rider. David Peake, has the mount again.
